INTHEFRAY.COM Takes A Look At Gay Marriage, Straight Marriage, And Other Hot Issues In Coupling
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) April 4, 2004
In the April issue (http://inthefray.com), Henry Belanger talks with experts about President Bush’s efforts to promote healthy marriages in lower-income communities; Adam Lovingood photographs San Francisco same-sex couples who were married in city hall last February; Radhika Sharma interviews second-generation Indian American couples who are trying to make arranged marriages work in modern America; and Laura Nathan explores the ways that a dating industry hungry for profits furthers certain stereotypes and assumptions about gender and sexuality.
“Love in a time of conflict” also features personal stories from our readers about the complications and joys of their “cross-cultural relationships” (take, for instance, “Metro and manure,” a self-described country girl’s account of loving across the rural/urban divide). We round out this special issue with Kathrin Spirk’s touching photographs of a couple who have been together for more than fifty years (and — surprise — are still very much in love).
This month, INTHEFRAY.COM also introduces three important columnists to its pages: New York Times Magazine regular contributor and Alicia Patterson fellow Benoit Denizet-Lewis, veteran journalist and author Afi-Odelia E. Scruggs, and editorial cartoonist Tak Toyoshima, creator of the Secret Asian Man strip.
Most of the pieces for the special issue will be published on Monday, April 5; the Belanger and Lovingood articles will appear in a second installment on Monday, April 19.
Since its April 2001 launch, INTHEFRAY.COM has published 28 issues and featured more than 90 writers and artists, including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Robert F. Keeler and controversial political commentator Noam Chomsky. It has covered topics ranging from multiracial churches to gay body fetishes to school choice to Hindu-Muslim violence. Yet, it continues to operate on a shoestring budget — without an office, with all communication done over e-mail and phone (many editors have never met face-to-face), and an all-volunteer staff of some 200 editors and contributors.

Dating Can Drive You Crazy
Brisbane, Australia (PRWEB) February 22, 2006
Dating used to be something singles did for fun. Now, thanks to the internet, it’s a fast growing industry. In 2004 there were over 1000 sites offering dating services and since then many more have been added to the line up. As a single person working their way through the vast variety of choices on offer is often a difficult and confusing process.
Firstly singles have to put aside their aspiration to find a soulmate and instead focus on the best way to go about it. Should they try speed dating? Register with a free online dating service or pay up for the real thing? Is online dating worth the time and effort it takes to create your own profile? And how do you write a profile that gets results?
How about if you’re Christian or Jewish or Indian or Hispanic or Gay? Or Divorced or Senior? Do the same dating rules apply? Exactly what steps do you need to follow to meet the man or woman of your dreams?
Dating and Love Advice (http://www.datingloveadvice.com) was set up to help singles solve these modern dating dilemmas. Anna Dawson, creator of Dating and Love Advice, puts it like this: ‘There is so much on offer in the dating world that it is difficult for singles, and especially those newly single, to know where to start. I could see that some straight talking advice was needed to help take the confusion out and put some common sense back in.’
Dating and Love Advice has a broad range of articles, news items and useful resources freely available to web visitors. New content is constantly being added to keep singles up-to-date on the latest dos and dont’s of the dating game.

First-time Author Matt Rauscher Compared to J.D. Salinger and Philip Roth
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 24, 2006
Chicago author Matt Rauscher’s debut novel The Unborn Spouse Situation has received an increasing amount of critical praise, with reviewers comparing the novel to both J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye and Philip Roth’s Portnoy’s Complaint. The fiery, indie novel that has shocked some and delighted many more has seen a swell in readership through both positive reviews and online word of mouth.
Writing for The Independent Gay Writer, author Andrew Barriger called The Unborn Spouse Situation “a stunningly quick-witted and sincere first-person narrative,” with “the introspection of The Catcher in the Rye.” The review went on to praise the novel’s “stark, passionate honesty,” and “mind-blowing exhilaration,” calling Matt Rauscher “a master of first- person writing.”
Additionally, OutSmart Magazine of Houston, Texas, said, “If you’re looking for a gay Portnoy’s Complaint, here it is.” The review also noted the novel’s “great sex.” Though Rauscher’s book describes a raucous Midwestern college town with a colorful cast of rebellious personalities, the comparison to Philip Roth’s masterpiece highlights The Unborn Spouse Situation’s frank, darkly comic portrayal of sex, fears, and complex, difficult relationships.
Instinct Magazine has recently raved, “This book about college student angst set in the Midwest rocks!” Prolific book reviewer Richard Labonte wrote in Books To Watch Out For: “Rauscher captures the antsy angst of urgent desire with intelligent wit, and the emotional and sexual maturity of his young character with entertaining assurance.”
The Unborn Spouse Situation describes a haphazard relationship between two college students: a 22-year-old gay aspiring filmmaker and an Indian American man already set up in an arranged marriage.
Rauscher, a freelance writer and novelist, first sent the book to publishers in 2003 with the help of a major New York literary agency. Rejected by every major house and many minor houses because of its explicit, honest portrayal of gay and straight college students and their complicated relationships, Rauscher released the novel himself in 2005 and has seen a steady swell in readership and critical praise. “I see twentysomethings every day on Myspace.com talking about it,” he says. “They’re even writing blogs about it, and listing it as their favorite book. It’s wonderful to be able to watch that as it happens.”
Reviews on popular websites, some with more than a million members, have further fueled The Unborn Spouse Situation’s popularity. Mogenic.com, Gaywired, Qbliss, and LGBT Living have all featured reviews, sometimes alongside Rauscher’s hilarious freelance pieces about Internet dating and the perils of life and love in the modern and cyber universe.

Study Addresses “Cross-Selling” Within the Dating, Adult Dating Arena
(PRWEB) November 9, 2006
During the last three months World Dating Partners has piloted a scheme in which they invited a select group of their affiliate partners to run an Adult dating service in parallel with their existing Dating sites. The results have been spectacular. Virtually all the sites involved in the pilot reported back that approximately 40% of their dating site members joined the Adult Dating service. This was exciting news, but even more important, they remained as paying members on both systems, thus generating substantial initial and recurring fees.
The scope of the pilot was extended further, by offering the same pilot group the opportunity to run other ‘minority’ sector sites, again alongside their core dating business. Sites designed specifically for minority groups such as the gay community, and people of Indian ethnic origin, were used in the test. The immediate effect on revenue of this cross-selling has been amazing. Most partners involved are reporting back increases in revenues of up to 50% over a 3 month period with the likelihood of further increases in the future.
“We are extremely pleased by the results of this pilot” said Robert Fathers, CEO of WDP. “They bear out our view that one of the best way for dating site owners to grow their business is by expanding the breadth of their offering. The opportunity is there for quite dramatic revenue growth in a relatively short time. We are committed to supporting our partners in growing their profits by helping them offer more to prospective members, and by adding further revenue models, expanding existing cross-selling niches, will help partners create opportunities for increasing revenue even further.”
World Dating Partners have been committed to creating new ideas and products to include within its marketing arsenal in order to help partners develop ways of increasing revenue, their ongoing commitment to experiment with new marketing techniques is testimony to helping dating partners expand their business model and to create funds to expand into larger organisations.
For more information on this, and the original pilot scheme, contact Robert Fathers, CEO, World Dating Partners at robert @ fathers.co.uk.
