Ruth Schuler’s Soul-Stirring Reports from the Edge, Collected

Novato, CA (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

A liberated American woman and an ambitious Arab man throwing sparks off each other; a young Palestinian who dreams of being a doctor accepts his father’s decision to become a bomb-carrying martyr for their cause; an Indian girl escapes the government massacre of her village, is shot by soldiers as she crosses a river and dies happy knowing that she is free…collecting stories from all over the world, Ruth Wildes Schuler’s Wild Is The Hawk’s Dream taps into the dreams, places, and marginalized lives that are strange to the civilized Western experience.

The American woman and the Arab man star in the title novella, an atypical romance between two vastly different worlds with an ultimately more realistic ending. Schuler’s imaginative scope covers a vast terrain of peoples, customs, and emotions – demonstrating a depth of objectivity and observation that captures an often untapped well of humanity in her readers that seeks to understand and sympathize with every cultural experience on earth. Taking on a tone of urgency common in frontline journalism, many of her stories are swiftly told and make readers think, and think deeply.

Schuler proves equal to her ambition in this tightly-written collection of dramas, moral tales and tragedies experienced by various people in many different places and times. She seeks to draw from that half-forgotten well many reactions from readers as the stories will allow: mostly, her purpose is all about waking readers to the fact of injustice, neglect, and misapprehension. Operating far from her cultural comfort zones, she is one of those seekers who serve to strengthen the foundations of civilization with her work. It is a difficult task, it has been a harsh journey, but Ruth Schuler has come back with all her stories to enlighten and perhaps change the vapidness with which the majority comfortably sees the world.

The holiday season is one of the busiest times of the year, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up with its many challenging demands. Fortunately, there is relief for holiday revelers looking to maximize their cheer—and their holiday food fare.

Nutropia (http://www.nutropia.com), a fresh food delivery company servicing the New York Metro area, provides a comprehensive range of delicious and nutritious gourmet meals delivered right to your doorstep so you can cross at least one major item off your holiday to-do list.

Nutropia’s meal plans are highly customizable and tailored to suit individual tastes and dietary needs. There are 100 new meals and snacks to select from on a weekly basis, prepared by a team of professionals headed by executive chef Christopher Rivard. Together, the team creates delectable dining experiences that include Italian, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, American, Indian and Mexican.

Each meal is placed in an individually packaged, microwave-safe container and carefully enclosed in a thermal cooled bag with ice packs and utensils. Nutropia also labels all its dishes with both nutritional value and the date of delivery to help clients keep track of their intake and to guarantee freshness.

“We understand how hectic and difficult it can be for New Yorkers to prepare tasty, nutritious meals while juggling parties, entertaining, shopping and working,” says Nutropia co-founder, James Rappaport. “So we developed this program to ensure that they can easily get the delicious, gourmet meals they seek, delivered right to their front door, with absolutely minimum effort, making the holiday season much more manageable and stress-free.”

At the heart of Nutropia’s philosophy is a passion for helping their customers achieve their dietary goals – whether they are looking to lose weight, gain weight, increase their energy level, or simply to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

“At Nutropia, we strive to meet the individual needs or special requests of each of our clients in a way that is both healthy and beneficial to the waistline,” says Ranee LaFratta, co-owner of Nutropia. “We make sure that our customers can maintain their proper diets and have all their favorite foods, but not necessarily all on the same day!”

LaFratta also makes herself personally available to every Nutropia client. “All our customers have my direct cell phone number and we work together to customize suitable menus,” she says. “I also take all their suggestions and work closely with our chef to create new, fresh and inspired dishes. At the end of the day, I strongly believe that the happier and more successful our customers are, the more successful we can be.”

Nutropia currently services the boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, as well as Westchester County and the Lower Hudson Valley. Outside of New York, Nutropia delivers to Greenwich, Connecticut and all of the New Jersey towns within 10 miles of the George Washington Bridge, including: Jersey City, Hoboken, Fort Lee and West New York. Q&A: Would it be inappropriate to discuss American dating with an Indian friend?

3

Question by gracielakar: Would it be inappropriate to discuss American dating with an Indian friend?
Would it be inappropriate to talk about your personal experiences in American dating with an Indian friend (male or female)? Naturally, I mean not to go into any sort of graphic detail. Knowing how conservative the culture is, however, I sincerely do not want to unintentionally shock or offend my friends.

Best answer:

If someone asks about American dating customs then they should be told. You don’t have to say anything that would make you feel uncomfortable. Just answer their questions honestly.

Rare Zuni Jar Inspires Leading American Indian Potters to Reinterpret the Past at Upcoming Scottsdale Show

Rare Zuni Jar Inspires Leading American Indian Potters to Reinterpret the Past at Upcoming Scottsdale Show

Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) November 26, 2009

A rare pottery jar from Zuni Pueblo in western New Mexico has provided inspiration for fourteen cutting-edge contemporary American Indian artists. The completely intact jar dates to the late 1800s and depicts frogs and butterflies – Zuni symbols expressing prayers for rain. During the past summer’s dry season, renowned American Indian art dealer Martha Struever of Santa Fe, New Mexico selected the pot. Then, Ms. Struever and Mr. King issued a unique challenge. They asked fourteen leading Southwestern American Indian potters to use the Zuni jar as their inspiration. Their task: create their own jar reflecting the rain symbolism of the Zuni piece.

These fourteen pots, as well as the historic Zuni jar, will be presented for sale on December 3, 2009 at the Scottsdale King Galleries in an exhibit entitled “Double Vision: Reinterpretations of a Classic Zuni Jar”.

The participating American Indian potters include:

Autumn Borts-Medlock of Santa Clara Pueblo

Susan Folwell of Santa Clara Pueblo

Jason Garcia of Santa Clara Pueblo

Lisa Holt and Harlan Reano of Cochiti and Santo Domingo Pueblos

Jake Koopee of Hopi/Tewa descent

Elizabeth Manygoats of Navajo descent

Samuel Manymules of Navajo descent

Jennifer Moquino of Santa Clara Pueblo

Rainy Naha of Hopi/Tewa descent

Les Namingha of Hopi/Tewa descent

Jody Naranjo of Santa Clara Pueblo

Russell Sanchez of San Ildefonso Pueblo

Jaime Zane Smith of Wyandot descent

Linda Tafoya of Santa Clara Pueblo

The groundbreaking show lets each of these fourteen American Indian artists use their own cultural background and very distinct talent to reinterpret the classic Zuni jar. Their charge from Ms. Struever and Mr. King had no artistic restriction. The resulting pots highlight the exceedingly rich diversity in today’s American Indian pottery. To view, in a single exhibition, how these potters respond to the powerful imagery on a single antique vessel will be a stimulating experience for those who have the opportunity to visit the Scottsdale show.

The show at the King Galleries, 7100 Main Street, Scottsdale is open from December 3 – December 17.
